Shelizé & Aleem.

Shelizé and Aleem were married over a crisp and clear weekend this past October. The couple hosted a traditional ceremony at the new Ismaili Centre Toronto and Aga Khan Museum. The following day, guests were invited to a glittering reception at the Delta Hotel Toronto where they were treated to an exquisite meal of Indian cuisine catered by The Host, and entertained by a Bollywood-style dance performance by Broken Dance Performing Arts, who were recently finalists on Canada’s Got Talent. Calvin Lee photographed the events.

Vivian & James: Traditional Opulence.

Vivian and James wanted their wedding to be not only a celebration of the love they shared together, but also a day to honour their family and friends, thanking them for their love and support. The couple showed their appreciation by hosting an affair full of flair and opulence, designed and planned by Wendy Lee of Asian Fusion Weddings. A palette of vivid scarlet and ornate gold was the cornerstone of the wedding, one rich with Chinese tradition. The ballrooms of the King Edward hotel served as the elegant backdrop to the festivities.

Throughout the day, the couple honoured their families in a series of tea ceremonies — a sweet tea promotes continued happiness; lotus seeds and red dates are said to bring the newlyweds children early and often. At the reception, guests were treated to an exquisite seven course meal by Vivian’s Uncle’s company, Grand Catering. Meanwhile, lion dancers and acrobats entertained the crowd until it was time for the dancing to begin. Before departing for the evening each of the guests was favoured with a jade token from H&F Jewellery.

Supported and surrounded by their beloved family and friends, Vivian and James celebrated their marriage with a day of tradition born of their heritage. It was a day they won’t soon forget.

Introducing Calvin Lee

Calvin Lee

We’re thrilled to announce the addition of Calvin Lee to our roster of lead photographers for 2015.

For Calvin, growing up in a family of artists meant that observation, analysis and appreciation of his surroundings would become a daily routine. His love of art and form was fostered by his father, a sculptor, and his mother, a graphic designer. Earning a Bachelor of Industrial Design from The Ontario College of Art and Design enabled Calvin to “get his hands dirty”, and “achieve one of the hardest things” – that is – “simplicity”.

Calvin’s power of observation and his ability to “anticipate a moment in development” give his photographs a rich and moody quality. It is those subtle, and yet brimming instants that Calvin loves to celebrate.
